A Monthly Awareness Song and Blog by Kristin Hoffmann

“The Rose”

Music box plays out my song
“I’ll do it my way”…I hum along
So many years I prayed for a sign
Almost forgot my light inside

But now I’m holding a new sun
And I know this life has just begun

The Rose is comin’ open, I’m breathing in again
I’m finding forward motion in every smile and friend
Feelin’ timeless beauty, remembering I’m free
The Rose is comin’ open,
Turning open,
Growing open…to reveal…A new Me

Now I’m dancing out-loud
Stepping strong, and I’m feeling proud
Ebb and flow is in my eyes
Sunsets break across my skies

And I hear my inner voice
Singing softly “It’s alright”

The Rose is comin’ open, I’m breathing in again
I’m finding forward motion in every smile and friend
Feelin’ timeless beauty, remembering I’m free
The Rose is comin’ open,
Turning open,
Growing open…to reveal…A new Me

And I’ve got everything I need
To keep on moving gracefully…so gracefully
Travelin’ on my own journey
Loving every step…lovin’ every step to Me

The Rose is comin’ open, I’m breathing in again
I’m finding forward motion in every smile and friend
Feelin’ timeless beauty, remembering I’m free
The Rose is comin’ open,
Turning open,
Growing open…to reveal…A new Me

As March has been Women’s Month, I have done a lot of thinking over the past weeks about many of the incredible women who have touched my life, and many of the empowered women who are guides for me at this time. Strangely enough, in this same month, I have become aware of quite a few of these beautiful souls who are going through deep challenges with health, relationships and overall life. I myself, navigated through a mysterious health challenge over the past months and weeks that cut right to the core of my emotional being, as it involved my voice. When I finally took the time and space I needed, to meditate and reflect, I was able to figure out the root cause of my own issue and have thankfully experienced a beautiful healing over the past week.

Life is definitely becoming more of a wild roller-coaster ride these days…and while it can feel exciting at times, it can also be overwhelming for our bodies, minds and spirits as we do our best to hold on. So many times, as beings who pride ourselves in thriving, creating, and leading, it is hard to share our personal times of change and challenge with others or ask for assistance or support when we need it most. Reaching out to others can feel like a smoke signal broadcasting the message, “I am having trouble keeping it all together!”

The irony of all this is that to truly be empowered beings, we must learn and remember to honor ourselves fully, navigate our most challenging times with loving attention and dedication, and ask for support from friends and community when we need it most.

Amidst my March ponderings, I found myself returning, multiple times, to a song called “The Rose,” which I had the honor to write for a dear friend, Nancy, a few years back. Nancy had contacted me, during a time of immense challenge and change in her life, to commission a personal empowerment song, to use as an uplifting daily reminder of her growth and expansion out of shadows and into the light of herself! I was immediately moved and excited by Nancy’s request, and went to work in my studio to create “The Rose.” Nancy resonated deeply with the song and was able to use it as a powerful personal tool, to remind her of her own beauty and evolution, and lift her mood whenever she felt like she was slipping back into memories of saddness and past frustrations.

Nancy’s request for a personal empowerment song can be a wonderful model for us all! How can we take more active roles in our own growth and healing? What are some creative tools we could enlist, in advance, to assist us when we are feeling weak? Are there a couple of trusted, high vibrational people around us, who we could ask now, to be official “resonators” with us when things get challenging? Is there a community meditation, singing or dancing group that could serve as a powerful space for clearing and release when we need to let go?

I invite you to listen to “The Rose” and spend a little time thinking about when you feel most empowered, and how you can affirm and gift yourself that space more frequently. Afterall, one thing we ALL know for sure is that change is inevitable. Some change is beautiful, and some is straight up hard to swallow. However, if we are willing to slow down and ask ourselves what we need at any given time, I do believe it is possible to find and create the awareness and tools necessary to navigate any challenge that comes our way from a space of empowerment.
