What is Unbroken? It is a “model for change” and an asset-based community organizing initiative…

What is a community organizing initiative? It is an opportunity to improve quality of life in your neighborhood through a wholistic and collaborative approach…

What are community assets? The Search Institute (www.search-institute.org) has developed a list of 40 Developmental Assets that every person from youth to senior—and every community as a whole—needs in order to be successful… These include: Having a Support System… Feeling Valued and Needed… Knowing and Basing Decisions on Boundaries… Constructive Use of Time… Commitment to Learning… Positive Values and Choices… And More…

How does an Unbroken community organize? Each community is unique with valuable assets, resources, and potential partners. The first step is for an Unbroken community to come together and identify and engage these unique assets, resources, and partners toward achieving a common goal—building literacy, addressing social issues through the arts. And the work doesn’t stop with reaching one goal, there are always new opportunities for growth and change as the Unbroken community becomes a collaborative “Agent of Change.”

What does an Unbroken community look like? Every community is a fabric of a larger tapestry… The unique characteristics of race, religion, culture, socioeconomics, and generations make up that rich fabric of life in each community… Connecting the positive assets of a community to engage youth through seniors and create a ripple of positive change…
