Gandhi’s Be Magazine
On the mark of the New Year at Gandhi’s Be Magazine, we released a very urgent message regarding the impending execution of four peaceful protestors in Egypt…
Read Gandhi’s Be Magazine statement: Urgent Statement: Stop the Executions in Egypt! Four Peaceful Egyptian Protestors Sentenced to Die Tomorrow
These young men were not hardened criminals… They were doctors, engineers, fiancees preparing to marry with bright futures ahead of them…. and engaged citizens who care about a peaceful and prosperous future for their country and their families…
So their crime? It was not a crime, it was their basic democratic and human right to peacefully protest the Egyptian military regime currently under rule by General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi…. but for this they were imprisoned and sentenced to death, and today the are no longer with us.
Unfortunately, these young men’s lives were not saved. They were executed by the Egyptian military the very next day after our official statement pleading for their lives. But we will not hang our heads in despair, we will keep moving forward, speaking out, and working for freedom, democracy, human rights, and social justice for all.
I am grateful for this excellent article written by our fellow journalist Amir Ahmed, a senior editor at CNN. The story of Egypt must be mainstreamed until more and more U.S. citizens are asking the question: Why are my taxpayer dollars being spent on oppression and violence?
We need engaged citizens now more than ever before! This is the year. Now is the time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.
