Urgent Call: Stop the Execution in Egypt

Now is the time for people of the Western World to take a stand and “Stop the Execution” of innocent pro-democracy supporters in Egypt and to save the life of former President Mohamed Morsy who was kidnapped and has been imprisoned for the last four years. The repressive military regime that is currently heading Egypt’s government has imprisoned over 35,000 men, women, teenagers, and even children since the military coup on July 3, 2013 took away the first ever democratically elected president and left the country reeling into a downward spiral of violence and chaos.

If we citizens of the Western World do not speak up now for freedom, democracy, human rights, and social justice in Egypt now, it is only a matter of time that other repressive regimes strengthen in their attempts to seize control, while eroding the basic human rights and freedoms of people around the world.

Currently there are thirteen pro-democracy supporters who are facing impending execution in Egypt simply for rejecting the current military regime that is under the leadership of General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Additionally, the health of former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy has been steadily declining and until just recently he has been denied contact with his family and attorney.

As a citizen of the Western World, we urge you to do your part as a global citizen and immediately forward this letter to your members of congress, parliament, the White House, the European Union, and the United Nations.

We call for the immediate release and urgent medical attention to:

Former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy

Pro-Democracy Supporters: Ahmed Elwaleed Elsayed, Abdulrahman Mahammed Abdo, Ibrahim Yehia Azzab, Bassem Mohsen Khoreby, Khaled Refa’at Asker, Mahmoud Mamdeh Wahba, Ahmed Meshaly, Ibrahim Azab, Abd el-Rahman Atteia, Mohamed Al-Adawi, Ahmed Al-Walid Al-Shal, Ahmed Mahmoud Dabour, Mohamed Gamal Ismail.

Please take note of these urgent releases from both Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International:

Human Rights Watch report: “Egypt: Cancel Military Court Death Sentences Convicted Civilians Alleged Torture, Forcible Disappearances”

Amnesty International report: “Seven Men Facing Imminent Execution After Being Tortured in Custody”

We urge the United States, the European Union, and the United Nations to immediately intervene in the cases of Dr. Mohamed Morsy and these political prisoners who are facing impending execution. Please dispatch a medical and human rights team to fully investigate these cases and provide the Western world with the pertinent information needed to act swiftly and intervene against the Egyptian military’s violation of the most very basic of human rights.

For the last several years, our coalition of human rights organizations have been advocating for a Free Egypt built on the values of freedom, democracy, human rights, and social justice. We believe this work is more urgent now than ever before to establish stability and security in Egypt as well as across the region and around the world.

Please find the attached letters signed by notable academics, human rights activists, and political leaders regarding the need for basic human rights and justice in Egypt. We thank you for your immediate attention and action in regard to this urgent matter.
